Bilqees Sarwar Foundation supports mobile healthcare for Syrian refugees
NRS International‘s family-run charity, the Bilqees Sarwar Foundation (BSF), has pledged its support for Alseeraj for Development and Healthcare (Alseeraj), a non-profit organisation providing humanitarian aid to Syrians affected by violence, hunger, poverty, injury and displacement.
Under a six month agreement, the Pakistan-based charitable foundation provides 2,500 USD per month to enable Alseeraj to continue its mobile medical clinic in Syrian refugee camps in eastern Lebanon. With the support of BSF, the mobile medical clinic can now offer free healthcare and medical supplies to 1,300 beneficiaries per month.
The project was started over a year ago and continues to receive accolades from community members for its portability. Alseeraj aims to provide inclusive and comprehensive care to patients from diverse backgrounds, regardless of their political affiliations, religion, age and sex.
Eastern Lebanon hosts 60 refugee camps which are home to more than 110,000 Syrian refugees. The respective communities suffer from poor living and health conditions, which are often exacerbated by inadequate infrastructure, unemployment and tight travel restrictions. The majority of the refugees living in the camps fled from fighting near Damascus and Homs, and many do not know when they will return home again.
“We appreciate BSF’s contribution in supporting the mobile medical clinic, proving that humanity has no boundaries,” said Dina Ramadan, Executive Director of Alseeraj.
In addition to serving the community through the clinic, the Alseeraj medical team also conducts extensive outreach activities in the wider refugee community. Visiting camp schools and other facilities, medics evaluate hygiene conditions, identify endemic diseases and other health risks, carry out a wide range of medical check-ups and long-term hygiene programmes and disease prevention education.
Alseeraj for Development and Healthcare is a non-political, non-governmental organisation that serves all Syrians in need. It aims to fight poverty and illiteracy, promote self-reliance, peaceful coexistence and reintegration of vulnerable communities. Alseeraj participates in every health-related activity in besieged areas by coordinating with NGOs, committees and medical offices to guarantee the best medical and humanitarian aid services inside and outside Syria.
